Mt.Erebes Crash

I wasn't at McMurdo for this, but to my understanding there was a small ceremony the other day, to remember the anniversary of the Mt. Erebes crash of 1979. Back in the day, Air New Zealand, ran a tourist trip around McMurdo and the Antarctic Continent. In 1979, the aircraft experienced some bad weather and flew into the side of the active volcano known as Mt.Erebes. It was the deadliest crash in Antarctic history.

There is a wicked good article on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_New_Zealand_Flight_901

I won't repost the article on here, but 257 people total died in the crash. The recovery effort was pretty long as well.
